Overview

One platform for jobs, estimating, clients and site safety

JACK App is an all-in-one construction management platform used by builders and trades across Australia, New Zealand, the US and Canada to manage jobs, estimating, client communication and site safety.

As Senior UX/UI Designer, I lead the design of both the desktop and mobile product, as well as the marketing website across all four regions.

The challenge

Simple enough on site, deep enough for the office

Construction businesses juggle multiple stakeholders – builders, trades, clients and site staff, often across different devices and locations, with real compliance and safety requirements attached. Designing for this meant balancing simplicity for time-poor tradespeople on-site with the depth needed for office-based project management, across both AU/NZ and US/Canada markets with different regulatory needs.

Time-poor builders and trades working on-site, often on mobile.

Office-based teams who need depth for project management.

Clients who need clear, timely communication about their job.

Compliance and safety needs that differ between AU/NZ and US/Canada.

What I did

Design, research and reporting across the whole product

Product design

  • Design the desktop and mobile JACK App software, including screens, flows and functional prototypes for new features
  • Build functional prototypes to test and communicate design solutions before development
  • Work closely with the Product Manager and CTO to scope upcoming features and future roadmap items

Research

  • Conduct user research and usability testing with builders and trades to validate design decisions
  • Carry out market research to inform product direction and competitive positioning
  • Meet regularly with stakeholders to gather insight into desired changes and pain points within the app

Analytics & reporting

  • Track website analytics for both the Australia/New Zealand and US/Canada sites, reporting via Data Studio
  • Use Hotjar and Google Analytics to identify friction points and opportunities for improvement
  • Prepare and present professional design and research reports to stakeholders

Website & brand

  • Design and maintain the JACK App marketing website
  • Keep the website updated with new content and materials
  • Design branding, signage and customer safety signage using Illustrator

Impact

Better decisions, grounded in real users

Collaboration

I work closely with the Product Manager and CTO on feature scoping and prioritisation, and regularly present research findings, design work and analytics reports to stakeholders. This keeps design decisions grounded in both user needs and business priorities.

Impact

Ongoing usability testing and analytics tracking have helped identify and resolve friction points across both the AU/NZ and US/Canada product experience, while closer scoping with product and engineering has improved how new features are prioritised and delivered.
