EvTEK Chargers

Project Overview:
EvTEK Chargers is a company specializing in electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, offering both at-home charging stations and commercial EV charging installations. The project involved creating a brand-new website for EvTEK Chargers to support their launch in the growing EV market. This website needed to showcase their products (various charger models), explain installation services, and educate visitors about EV charging benefits, all with the aim of generating leads (inquiries for purchase/installation). The scope included UX/UI design, content planning, and front-end development for a marketing site that appeals to EV owners, businesses, and potentially local government clients.

Design Challenge & Goals:
A key challenge was that EV charging was still a relatively new domain for many customers; therefore, the site not only had to market EvTEK’s offerings but also serve an educational role. The design had to convey innovation and eco-friendliness, aligning with the EV ethos, while also instilling trust (since installing a charging station is a significant investment). Goals for the site included: presenting technical product information (charging speeds, connector types, smart features) in an easy-to-digest manner, emphasizing the company’s expertise and certified technicians (for trust), and driving interested users to contact EvTEK for quotes or consultations. Additionally, ensuring the site is mobile-friendly was crucial, as many users might be searching on their phones (e.g., an EV owner looking up chargers while on the go).
Process:
User and Market Research:
Researched EV adoption trends and targeted personas – e.g., a homeowner with a new electric car, or a business owner considering installing chargers for customers. Also reviewed competitors’ websites (both local and international EV charger providers like ChargePoint, Tesla Wall Connector info pages, etc.) to gather feature ideas and identify what content (specs, certification logos, financing options) they highlight. From this, we compiled a list of must-have content: charger specifications, cost savings calculators (like how much cheaper electric is vs gas, if possible), FAQs about installation and compatibility, and clear calls-to-action for contacting sales. We also noted an emphasis on environmental imagery (electric cars, green energy symbols) in this industry’s marketing.
Branding Coordination:
EvTEK had a logo and basic brand colors (a bright green and dark gray), which we took as the starting point. I expanded this into a style guide for the web – adding complementary colors (white and navy blue for backgrounds and text) and selecting fonts that are clean and technical (for example, using a geometric sans-serif to give a modern tech feel).
Content Strategy & Wireframing:
Structured the site into clear sections: Home (overview, featured products/services, and a strong visual of an EV being charged), Products (detailing each charger model EvTEK offers, with specs like voltage, amperage, smart features, etc.), Services (explaining installation process, maintenance, and any consulting services for commercial setups), About (company background, mission towards sustainability, team qualifications), and Contact (with a form to request a quote or ask questions). Also planned a Resources/FAQ page to answer common questions (“How do I choose the right charger?”, “What permits are needed?” etc.). Created wireframes where the Home page would immediately highlight a call-to-action (“Get an EV Charger Quote”) near the top, along with quick links to learn more about Home vs. Commercial solutions. Product pages wireframes included comparison tables so users could compare, say, Charger Model A vs. Model B easily. The Services page wireframe outlined steps of the installation process with icons for each step (survey, installation, inspection, etc.).
UI Design:
Designed high-fidelity mockups with an energetic and clean aesthetic. The bright green from the brand was used for accents like buttons and icons, symbolizing eco-friendliness and electricity. The layout featured plenty of imagery: photos of EVs charging in driveways for residential context, and parking lot charging banks for commercial context. I also used illustrative icons (like lightning bolts, plugs, and shield symbols for safety) to break up text. On the homepage, a prominent banner image of an electric car charging at sunset with a tagline overlay creates an immediate positive impression. We made sure to include trust-building elements in the design: logos of any certifications (if EvTEK’s chargers are UL certified or govt approved, for example) and a section for testimonials or client logos if available. The typography was chosen to be very readable, with ample spacing, because technical info can get dense – I wanted to avoid walls of text. Color contrast was tested to ensure text over images or colored sections was accessible.

Development:
Built the website front-end using a mobile-first approach. I utilized a CMS (WordPress or a static site generator) so that EvTEK staff could update product info as their technology evolved. Integrated a Google Maps snippet on the contact page to show areas served (since this was likely region-specific). We also optimized images (especially the high-quality car photos) with lazy loading to keep performance snappy. Ensured that the site passed performance and SEO checks – for example, using proper meta tags (“EV Chargers in [Region]”) to help local search.
Testing:
Conducted usability testing with a couple of target users – one EV owner friend and one small business owner – to navigate the prototype. They were asked to find information on a charger and then pretend to request a quote. Feedback was largely positive; they found the site informative. The EV owner suggested we highlight the charging speed (miles of range added per hour) more prominently, as that’s a key spec he looks for – we made that change by adding an icon + stat on each product tile. I also did cross-browser tests and tested on an actual phone to ensure the mobile layout (which included a collapsible menu and swipe-friendly carousels for product images) worked without issues. A final content proofread was done to ensure technical accuracy and clear phrasing for non-technical users.
Tools & Technologies:
Figma (initial design concepts), Figma (final design and prototyping), WordPress with a custom theme (development/CMS), Google Optimize and SEO tools like Google Search Console to monitor search performance post-launch.
Results:
The EvTEK Chargers website launch aligned with the company’s go-to-market campaign and helped establish credibility from day one. The site effectively educated visitors – analytics showed that many users navigated to the FAQ/Resources page, indicating the content was hitting its mark for curious newcomers. The inquiry form on the Contact page saw steady submissions each week, and EvTEK’s team received compliments on the site’s professional look. In summary, the project delivered a user-friendly, informative web presence that not only increased EvTEK’s visibility but actively supported the growth of the business by turning visitors into informed prospects.
