Overview

Independent B&Bs, easy to find and book

BNB Connection connects travellers with local bed-and-breakfast accommodation, offering an independent alternative to large rental sites.

The project was a responsive web application that showcases unique B&B properties, gives owners an easy way to list them, and makes booking enquiries straightforward for travellers.

The challenge

Personal charm, with mainstream convenience

The challenge was capturing the charm and personal touch of a B&B stay while making the experience as convenient as mainstream booking platforms, building in trust and simplicity for less tech-savvy owners and for travellers, often older couples and families.

BNB Connection property listing pages

High-quality photos and clear room descriptions.

Intuitive search by location, date and amenities.

A clean UI that’s easy for owners to manage listings.

Prominent “Book Now” calls to action.

Maps and reviews to help travellers decide.

Trust signals like host profiles and guest reviews.

Process

From research to a working prototype

  1. Research

Compared Airbnb and B&B specialty sites, and interviewed owners and frequent B&B travellers. Owners wanted control and a personal feel; travellers valued authentic photos and easy host contact.

  2. Wireframing & architecture

Mapped flows from search to listing to enquiry, with wireframes for the home page, filtered results, property detail and booking form, keeping steps to a minimum.

  3. UI design

A warm, soothing palette with cosy interior imagery, image carousels, price per night and key highlights like “Ocean View”, refined with larger fonts for older users.

  4. Prototype testing

An interactive Figma prototype tested with five owners and travellers, leading to a new “type of home” filter and a simpler enquiry form.

  5. Development

A responsive WordPress build with simple listing management for owners, plus optimised images and caching so pages load quickly in rural areas with slower internet.

  6. Launch blueprint

A functional prototype and design blueprint ready for the platform’s next steps in development and marketing.

Results

Usability and charm, in balance

5

Usability testers, a mix of B&B owners and travellers, who shaped the final design.

B&B owners found the listing process straightforward.

Travellers found it easier to navigate than larger platforms with “too many filters”.

Testers described the site as personal and uncluttered.
